The Long Awaited Fight

Bruising battle: David Haye and Dereck Chisora in action at a wet Upton Park

On Saturday Chisora joined tennis player Murray, who was in the audience, in the ‘runner up club’. David Hay applauded Chisora on his ability to take punches but that didn’t make the blow any easier. Our sources say that only a couple of hours before the fight, Chisora was happily munching away at a restaurant. Now I’m not a sports expert but when you feed up a horse before a race they don’t tend to run as well…

The support for Chisora wasn’t as strong as Haye with the rowdy crowd swearing and booing him on his entrance to the ring.

Many schools of thought feel that Haye won all of the rounds but it was close all the way through and in the Third, Chisora may have pipped Haye to the post or rather Haye’s head hit the post when Chisora carried on punching after the bell which is controversial but some say the bell wasn’t that loud…. In the 5th round Chisora went down twice before the referee finally called a knock out and for a relieved Chisora, it is all over.

Mickey Vann Too OLD To Handle Us- Referee Dispute Over Chisora and Haye Fight!

With less than two weeks to go for the 14 July bout, fresh controversy has arisen with regards to the match between David Haye and Dereck Chisora at Upton Park.Although the fight

is now likely to go ahead, amid speculation of the fight being called off last week, Haye’s trainer and manager Adam booth has objected, insisting that potential referee and former English featherweight Mickey Vann, who is in his late 60s, is not physically able to handle such a potentially-explosive heavyweight scrap, further claiming that Vann is not up to the job and that the fight requires a strong referee.

The Luxembourg Boxing Federation which initially granted the licence for the bout to take place despite the BBBC concerns- had chosen the 68 year-old veteran referee Mickey Vann to officiate the clash..In an interview with the The Sun Booth was quick to add that

“The fact that the Luxembourg Boxing Federation would nominate a 68-year-old featherweight to be in charge of a bout between two aggressive heavyweights, with a known grudge, in a fight that is certain to get physical and ugly, beggars belief.”

Vann who so far has firm backing from Frank Warren- (promoter and Boxing NationHead) is known for his no nonsense approach in the ring and has refereed a number of high profile major tournaments in the past including Lennox Lewis and Frank Bruno back in 1993.

The Haye camp- specifically-Booth who is aware of Chisora’s boisterous temper following his post match antics against champion Vitali Klitschko and his appalling history in the past (slapping Vitali, spitting at Wladimir and brawling with Haye, charged with physically assaulting his girlfriend), is feeling uneasy about the prospect of ‘Del boy’ facing Haye and going out of control in the ring.

World boxing champion Haye has always maintained his professionalism in and out of the ring adding that “I have always been a model pro in the ring, but he hasn’t,” and has demanded Zimbabwe-born Englishman Chisora take anger management classes before endorsing his future fights.

Warren who has a long standing history with Booth however, has intimated that both parties have to be ‘Happy’ before the fight goes ahead on Saturday next week. “I have every faith in Mickey but the other camp has to agree,” says the promoter. Booth on the other hand remains adamant about Mickey’s suitability for the role “Make no mistake, this fight is going to be wild. And we need to be 100 per cent confident of the third man in the ring.

The most talked about fight on the boxing calendar…

David Haye Dereck Chisora

As more and more tension builds up in the run-up to the highly anticipated bout between a former world champion Haye and the current world champion Chisora for the highly coveted prize in boxing, David Haye has yet again confirmed imminent retirement from professional boxing to the Boxing federation adding that his controversial fight with arch enemy-Chisora could be his last.

In light of his recent revelation to public dismay, the 31 year old vowed his boxing career would only be extended on the condition of him being granted a rematch against Wladimir or Vitali Klitschko who had defeated him back in the summer of 2011.

This rematch is unlikely given Vitali’s retirement plans following his up and coming grudge fight against Manuel Charr in September 2012, and his reluctance to relinquish his record of five heavy weight world titles. Haye remains hopeful that his victory against Chisora will be a greater incentive to help him clinch that lucrative rematch against Vitali adding..‘Things in boxing change really quickly so if I go out there and blast away Chisora in a couple of rounds that might cause a few raised eyebrows and people might think, “Maybe he could fight Vitali if he is deemed fit and healthy.

The aftermath of the fiery altercation in Munich still lingering and less than a month until the showdown in Upton Park, Haye and Chisora met briefly on Tuesday to promote the fight in a conference headed by boxing promoter Frank warren. Both boxers are still under suspension from the WBC so the encounter was nothing more than an exchange of words.

Despite the severe condemnation from the British Boxing Board and numerous boxing federation bodies surrounding the controversial decision to ban the match following the dispute, which to say the least, amassed huge public anger in Munich – resulting is sanctions and licence suspensions placed upon both Haye and Chisora, it seems more probable now than ever before with the backing of the Luxembourg Boxing Federation (LBF), the match taking place at Upton park on July 14.

“It is only public demand that has made this fight happen. He has absolutely nothing that I want, other than the satisfaction I will get from beating him up again.” Haye adds. The English hopeful dubbed to win this crucial fight, may however actually not live up to his expectation given his dismal performance by his own admission in recent months.

With so much expectation weighed on both contenders, and both in top form who knows what the culmination of a yearlong brawl would be. Having said that though it is important noting that neither of these worthy contenders, Haye nor Chorosa, have won their previous encounters.
